Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.
During the Babylonian exile, the prophet Jeremiah sent a letter to the Jewish exiles in Babylon, advising them to settle down and seek the welfare of the city as part of God's plan. Shemaiah the Nehelamite, a false prophet among the exiles, opposed Jeremiah's message by sending his own letters that encouraged rebellion against God's instructions, claiming a different vision. As a result, God declared through Jeremiah that Shemaiah and his descendants would face punishment, including exclusion from the blessings God intended for His faithful people.
