I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.

This prophecy was given during the final years before Jerusalem's destruction in 586 BC, when corrupt religious leaders were misleading the people. Instead of calling for repentance and spiritual reform, these prophets were living immoral lives themselves and giving false comfort to those living in sin. Sodom and Gomorrah were ancient cities God had destroyed for their wickedness, making this comparison especially severe.
