✦ SIMPLIFICADO

This prophecy came during the final years before Jerusalem's destruction in 586 BC, when many false prophets were telling people that Babylon's rule would be brief. Jeremiah was countering the false prophet Hananiah, who had just broken a wooden yoke to symbolize that God would quickly break Babylon's power. God was making clear through Jeremiah that Babylon's dominance was His will and would be much stronger and longer-lasting than people hoped.
