They shall be carried to Babylon, and there shall they be until the day that I visit them, saith the LORD; then will I bring them up, and restore them to this place.

This prophecy was given during the reign of King Zedekiah of Judah, just before the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem in 586 BC. Jeremiah was warning that the temple treasures and the people would be carried away to Babylon as part of God's judgment for their disobedience. The exile would last approximately 70 years before God would fulfill His promise to restore them.
