This occurred during the reign of King Jehoiakim of Judah (around 609-598 BC), who was hostile to prophets who spoke God's judgment against the nation. Urijah was a prophet who, like Jeremiah, proclaimed God's coming judgment on Jerusalem and Judah for their sins. When Urijah fled to Egypt for safety, Jehoiakim sent men to capture and bring him back for execution.
