King Hezekiah ruled Judah from about 715-686 BC and was considered one of the most righteous kings in Judah's history. He had become mortally ill, and the prophet Isaiah initially told him to prepare for death, but after Hezekiah's desperate prayer, God granted him fifteen more years of life. This verse introduces Hezekiah's personal psalm of thanksgiving that follows, written as a testimony of God's healing power.
