Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:
In the first century AD, Ephesus was a prominent city in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey), known for its grand Temple of Artemis, a major center of idol worship that drove local commerce through the production and sale of idols. Paul, during his third missionary journey around 52-55 AD, preached that handmade gods were not real deities, which directly challenged the economic interests of craftsmen like the silversmiths and led to widespread unrest. This context highlights the cultural clash between early Christianity and entrenched pagan practices in the Roman Empire.
