The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
In Genesis 49, Jacob is on his deathbed blessing his twelve sons, foretelling their roles in Israel's future as the nation begins to take shape. He prophesies that the tribe of Judah will hold the scepter, symbolizing royal authority and leadership, until the arrival of Shiloh, which is traditionally understood as a reference to the Messiah. This sets the foundation for Judah's prominence in Israel's history, including the kingship of David and the ultimate fulfillment in Jesus.
