This occurred during a rebellion of local city-states against their overlords in the Jordan Valley region around 2000 BC. Five kings, including those of Sodom and Gomorrah, had served King Chedorlaomer for twelve years but rebelled in the thirteenth year. When Chedorlaomer and his allied kings came to crush the rebellion, they defeated the local armies and plundered the cities' wealth.
