There be the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Zidonians, which are gone down with the slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to the pit.
Ezekiel was a prophet during the Babylonian exile in the 6th century BC, delivering God's messages of judgment against various nations as a warning of their impending downfall. In this verse, he specifically describes the fate of the princes of the north, likely referring to rulers from regions like Syria or Assyria, and the Zidonians from the Phoenician city of Sidon, who would face defeat and shame in death, sharing the grave with the uncircumcised slain as a symbol of humiliation. This reflects the ancient cultural context where circumcision was a covenant sign for Israel, emphasizing that even mighty foreign powers were not exempt from God's justice.
