During the time of the prophet Ezekiel, the Jewish people were living in exile after rebelling against God through alliances with foreign powers, which led to their defeat. In 597 BC, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon conquered Jerusalem, captured King Jehoiachin and the royal officials, and deported them to Babylon as a direct consequence of Judah's unfaithfulness and broken covenants.
