And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth.
In the book of Exodus, the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt, and God sent Moses to confront Pharaoh and demand their freedom. As part of this confrontation, God unleashed a series of plagues on Egypt to demonstrate His supreme power and compel Pharaoh to release His people. In this particular plague of flies, God specifically promised to protect the land of Goshen, where the Israelites lived, to show that He alone is the Lord ruling over all creation.
