In the book of Exodus, God is speaking to Moses from the burning bush, calling him to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and confront Pharaoh. To demonstrate His power and convince Moses of his divine calling, God performs a miracle by turning Moses' ordinary staff into a serpent when it is thrown on the ground. This sign was part of a series of wonders God provided to equip Moses for his role as a leader and messenger.
