This occurs at the end of Moses' 40-year leadership of Israel, just before they enter the Promised Land. Moses was 120 years old and had been forbidden by God from entering Canaan due to his disobedience at Meribah. The tabernacle of the congregation (tent of meeting) was the portable sanctuary where God met with Moses and spoke to the people during their wilderness journey.
