For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because ye will do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.
Moses is giving his final speech to the Israelites before his death, just as they are about to enter the Promised Land. He had led them for 40 years through the wilderness and given them God's laws, but he knew from experience how prone they were to rebellion and idolatry. This prophecy proved accurate as Israel repeatedly fell into idol worship and disobedience in the centuries that followed.
