Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.
During the Babylonian exile, King Nebuchadnezzar had erected a massive golden image and demanded that all people worship it, as a test of loyalty to his rule. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Jewish exiles in his court, refused to bow down due to their devotion to the God of Israel, they were thrown into a fiery furnace as punishment. Amazed by their unharmed emergence and the miraculous presence of a fourth figure in the flames, Nebuchadnezzar called them out, acknowledging the supremacy of their God.
