In the book of Acts, chapter 8, the apostle Philip had been preaching the gospel in Samaria, leading many to believe and be baptized. However, the Holy Spirit had not yet fallen on them, so the apostles Peter and John were sent from Jerusalem to lay hands on the new believers. When they did so, the Samaritans received the Holy Spirit, demonstrating the expansion of the church beyond Jewish territories.
