This verse is part of God's instructions to Moses about dividing the Promised Land of Canaan among the twelve tribes of Israel. Caleb was one of the twelve spies sent to scout the land 40 years earlier, and along with Joshua, he was one of only two who trusted God's promise and believed they could conquer it. Because of his faithfulness, Caleb was chosen to represent Judah in the land distribution process.
