This verse is part of the second census of Israel taken near the end of their 40 years in the wilderness, just before entering the Promised Land. Moses and Eleazar were counting all the tribes and family groups to determine how the land would be divided among them. These particular families were part of the tribe of Manasseh, one of Joseph's sons.
