And ye are risen up against my father’s house this day, and have slain his sons, threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother;)
In the book of Judges, after the death of Gideon, a judge who had led Israel to victory, his son Abimelech schemed to seize power by convincing the leaders of Shechem to support him. He then orchestrated the murder of his seventy half-brothers on a single stone to eliminate rivals and was crowned king because of his ties to the people. This verse comes from a speech by Jotham, Gideon's surviving son, who publicly condemned the people of Shechem for their role in this betrayal.
