And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.

This occurs during the conquest of Jericho, the first major city the Israelites attacked after crossing the Jordan River into the Promised Land. Earlier, Rahab had hidden the two Israelite spies and helped them escape, and in return they promised to spare her and her family when the city was destroyed. The family was placed outside the camp initially because they were foreigners who needed to be ritually cleansed before joining the Israelite community.
