And now the LORD your God hath given rest unto your brethren, as he promised them: therefore now return ye, and get you unto your tents, and unto the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side Jordan.

This occurs after the conquest of Canaan when Joshua is releasing the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh to return to their inheritance east of the Jordan River. These tribes had agreed to help their fellow Israelites conquer the land west of the Jordan before settling in their own territory. Now that the major battles were won and the land was distributed, they could finally go home to their families.
