In the Gospel of John, chapter 9, Jesus had recently healed a man born blind on the Sabbath, which angered the Jewish religious leaders and led to their intense interrogation of the man and his parents. The leaders cast the man out of the synagogue because he boldly defended Jesus and refused to deny the miracle. Jesus, upon hearing of this rejection, sought out the man to engage him personally and reveal his identity as the Son of God.
