✦ SIMPLIFICADO

In the 6th century BC, the prophet Jeremiah was delivering God's messages to the people of Judah during a time of political turmoil and spiritual decline, as the nation faced threats from the rising Babylonian Empire due to their idolatry and rebellion against God. Pashhur, a high-ranking temple official, had just persecuted Jeremiah for his prophecies, leading to this divine pronouncement of judgment on him and the nation. This verse fits into the broader biblical narrative of the Babylonian exile, where God used foreign powers to discipline His people and fulfill His warnings.
