This prayer comes from King Hezekiah during the Assyrian siege of Jerusalem around 701 BC. The Assyrian king Sennacherib had sent threatening letters claiming that God couldn't save Jerusalem, just as the gods of other nations had failed to protect their cities. Hezekiah brought these blasphemous messages directly to God in prayer, spreading them out before the Lord in the temple.
