Isaiah prophesied during the 8th century BC when Babylon was becoming a major threat to Israel and Judah. The Babylonians would eventually conquer Jerusalem and take the Jewish people into exile in 586 BC. This prophecy looked forward to the eventual fall of the Babylonian empire, which occurred when the Persians conquered it in 539 BC.
