The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim.
In the time of the prophet Isaiah, around the 8th century BC, the nation of Israel was divided into two kingdoms: the northern kingdom, often referred to as Ephraim or Israel, and the southern kingdom of Judah. This division, which occurred after the death of King Solomon, led to ongoing rivalry, jealousy, and military conflicts between the two, as they frequently allied with different foreign powers against each other. Isaiah's prophecy in this verse points to a future era of messianic restoration where God would bring unity and eliminate such divisions.
