This occurs after Isaac blessed Jacob instead of Esau, and Jacob fled to avoid Esau's anger. Esau had previously married Canaanite women, which greatly displeased his parents Isaac and Rebekah. Realizing his marriages had upset his family, Esau attempted to correct this by marrying within Abraham's extended family.
