This verse occurs during the fourth plague God sent on Egypt when Moses was demanding Pharaoh release the Israelites from slavery. Goshen was the fertile region in northeastern Egypt where the Israelites had settled and lived for over 400 years. God was demonstrating His sovereignty by protecting His people while judging their oppressors.
