In ancient Egypt, Pharaoh had decreed that all Hebrew baby boys be killed to control the growing Israelite population, leading Moses' mother to hide her infant son in a basket among the reeds of the Nile River. When Pharaoh's daughter discovered the baby, she decided to adopt him, and Moses' sister offered to find a Hebrew nurse for the child. This arrangement allowed Moses' own mother to care for him while he was raised in the Egyptian palace.
