And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.
In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses is addressing the Israelites as they near the end of their wilderness journey, preparing to cross into the Promised Land after years of exile and testing. He is commissioning Joshua as his successor because God had prohibited Moses from entering the land due to his earlier act of disobedience at the waters of Meribah. This scene highlights God's ongoing covenant with the Israelites, reaffirming the promises made to their ancestors like Abraham.
