✦ SIMPLIFICADO

In the Book of Daniel, which is set during the Babylonian exile in the 6th century BC, Daniel was a Jewish captive who had risen to a high position in the Persian court under King Darius. A royal decree had been issued that prohibited anyone from praying to any god or human except the king for 30 days, as a way to test loyalty and enforce the king's authority. Despite knowing the consequences, Daniel continued his established routine of prayer, facing Jerusalem as a symbol of his enduring connection to his homeland and faith.
