Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.
In the ancient Babylonian empire, King Nebuchadnezzar had erected a massive golden image and demanded that all people worship it, under penalty of death, as a way to enforce loyalty to his rule. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Jewish exiles in Babylon, refused to bow down due to their faithfulness to God, they were thrown into a fiery furnace but were miraculously saved, demonstrating God's power. This event prompted Nebuchadnezzar to issue a decree recognizing the God of Israel as uniquely powerful and forbidding any disrespect toward Him.
