This is part of Ahithophel's counsel to Absalom during Absalom's rebellion against his father King David. Ahithophel, David's former trusted advisor, had joined Absalom's revolt and was giving military strategy on how to defeat David while he was fleeing Jerusalem. The plan was to strike quickly while David was exhausted from fleeing and before he could gather his full army.
