And the LORD said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.

In the 9th century BC, during the divided kingdom of Israel, King Ahab and his wife Jezebel had led the nation into widespread idolatry by promoting the worship of Baal, which provoked God's judgment. God commanded Jehu, a military leader, to overthrow Ahab's dynasty and eradicate this idolatry as part of His plan to purify the nation. Because Jehu executed this task with zeal, God rewarded him with a promise that his descendants would rule for four generations.
