Jehoahaz became king of Judah around 609 BC after his father Josiah died in battle against Pharaoh Necho of Egypt. His extremely short reign ended when Pharaoh Necho deported him to Egypt and placed his brother Jehoiakim on the throne instead. This was during the final decades of the kingdom of Judah, when it was caught between the competing powers of Egypt and Babylon.
