This event occurred around 850 BC when the prophet Elijah was passing his ministry to his successor, Elisha. Elijah had been a powerful prophet who confronted Israel's idol worship and performed many miracles during the reign of wicked King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. Only two people in the Bible are recorded as being taken directly to heaven without dying: Enoch and Elijah.
