This verse comes at the end of God's instructions to the foreign peoples who were resettled in Israel after the northern kingdom fell to Assyria in 722 BC. These new inhabitants had been experiencing attacks from lions, which they attributed to not knowing how to worship the God of the land. God was reminding them that true worship and reverence for him brings divine protection.
