This was part of Jehu's message to the officials in Samaria who were caring for King Ahab's seventy sons after Ahab's death. Jehu had been anointed by God to destroy Ahab's dynasty and was essentially daring them to choose one of Ahab's sons as the new king and fight against him. The officials were being forced to decide whether to resist Jehu's divinely-appointed mission or submit to it.
