Jehoahaz became king of Judah around 609 BC after his father Josiah died in battle against Pharaoh Neco of Egypt. His brief three-month reign ended when Pharaoh Neco deposed him and took him captive to Egypt, replacing him with his brother Jehoiakim. This was during the final decades of the kingdom of Judah, as major world powers like Egypt and Babylon were fighting for control of the region.
