This is Solomon's famous request to God at the beginning of his reign as king of Israel, shortly after his father David's death. Solomon was offering sacrifices at the high place in Gibeon when God appeared to him in a dream and told him to ask for whatever he wanted. Instead of asking for wealth, long life, or victory over enemies, Solomon humbly asked for wisdom to govern God's people effectively.
