And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, to the oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims:

This event occurs during the dedication of Solomon's magnificent temple in Jerusalem, around 960 BC. The ark of the covenant, containing the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments, had been housed in a portable tent (the tabernacle) for centuries as Israel wandered and settled. Now it finally had a permanent home in the most holy place, also called the Holy of Holies, where only the high priest could enter once a year.
