Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king’s house, and sent to Benhadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
King Asa was the ruler of Judah during a period when the nation was divided from Israel, and he had previously seen God's deliverance in battles. However, when faced with a threat from Israel's king Baasha, Asa chose to seek help from Ben-Hadad, the king of Syria, by sending him silver and gold from the temple and palace treasuries. This decision reflected a common ancient practice of forming alliances through gifts, but it marked a shift away from relying on God.
