This occurs during King David's attempt to cover up his affair with Bathsheba, Uriah's wife, by bringing Uriah home from battle hoping he would sleep with his wife. Uriah was a Hittite warrior in David's army who was fighting in the siege of Rabbah. His refusal to go home demonstrated the military code of honor that soldiers shouldn't enjoy domestic pleasures while their comrades remained in battle.
