Jehoiachin was the young king of Judah who was captured and taken to Babylon in 597 BC when Nebuchadnezzar conquered Jerusalem. He spent 37 years in Babylonian prison until Evil-merodach (Nebuchadnezzar's son) became king around 562 BC and chose to free him. This act of mercy toward a former enemy king was unusual and showed a change in Babylonian policy.
