This verse is part of God's response through the prophet Isaiah during the siege of Jerusalem by the Assyrian king Sennacherib around 701 BC. King Hezekiah had prayed desperately for deliverance, and God promised to supernaturally defend the city. This was during a time when the powerful Assyrian empire had conquered most of the surrounding nations and seemed unstoppable.
