This verse concludes the account of Queen Athaliah's downfall around 835 BC. She had murdered most of the royal family to claim the throne of Judah, but the infant prince Joash was secretly saved and hidden for six years. When Joash was crowned as the rightful king, Athaliah was arrested and executed outside the temple grounds to avoid defiling the holy place.
