This occurred during Jehu's violent purge of Baal worship from Israel around 841 BC. Jehu had just killed all the priests and worshipers of Baal who had gathered in the temple, and now was systematically destroying all physical traces of this foreign religion. Baal worship had been promoted by the previous kings Ahab and Jezebel, leading Israel away from worshiping the true God.
