This occurs during the dedication of Solomon's temple in Jerusalem, around 960 BC. The Ark of the Covenant, containing the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments, was being moved into the Most Holy Place of the newly completed temple. The cherubim were large golden figures with outstretched wings that symbolized God's protective presence over His covenant with Israel.
