Jehoiakim ruled Judah from 609-598 BC during a tumultuous time when the nation was caught between the Egyptian and Babylonian empires. He was known for his wickedness, including burning Jeremiah's prophecies and oppressing his own people. His reign ended just before the major Babylonian exile, and his son Jehoiachin would only rule for three months before being taken captive to Babylon.
